Classy looking cars

It seems almost every time we go out into the community around Mesa, we see beautiful older cars in such beautiful condition.

We went out for dinner in Gilbert and this car was parked in front of the space where we parked:

We think it is probably a '55/'56 Ford Fairlane.

Then we went to our insurance agency's office, and this car was parked out front:

Jimmy gave me some great information about this car:

What you may not realize is that’s a Fairlane Skyliner. That is a combination of a convertible and a hardtop. The roof raises and slides back into the trunk area. There are several Y Tube videos. They are impressive, if not very practical. They were only made ‘57,’58 & ‘59 which says to me that practicality carried the day. The one you saw also has what is known as a Continental kit, extended rear bumper and externally mounted spare tire. This one also has “Lake Pipes”, the side mounted exhaust pipes in addition to the dual chrome tips out the back. The duals underneath were stock and the “Lake Pipes” could be “uncorked” to provide straight exhaust by removing the two bolt plate at the end. Presumably, this was done away from population or when racing at the Bonneville salt flats, thus “Lake Pipes”. Lake pipes where after market, all else looks factory. Probably way more than you wanted to know, but there you have it.

The agent that worked with us in the insurance office said that she had been working with the owner of that vehicle just before us, and that he shows it in a car show at one of the communities here in the area on Friday afternoons.

Finally, when we left the insurance office, this pickup truck was a bit in front of us -- we didn't get close enough to get a very good picture:

There's always something interesting to see!

We enjoy seeing these vehicles when we're out and about!
