From Lexington to Lexington

Continuing on our route east, we drove from Lexington, Kentucky to Lexington, Virginia, through West Virginia. We had contemplated stopping for the night to boondock at Tamarack in Buckley, West Virginia -- but it was a little warm for boondocking, and we had left Lexington, Kentucky early enough that we stopped to eat a late lunch at Beckley and continued driving.

Soon we got welcomed to Virginia...

...and were seeing some of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

When I was looking at campgrounds that would be convenient to our route -- I had planned that we could stop at Buena Vista, Virginia at a Passport America (PA) campground (Glen Maury Park) where we have stayed in the past (it is a nice PA campground -- unlike some others in the PA system!). But, I called to see if they would have sites, and they had a big blue grass festival coming in the following weekend, and the campground was sold out for over a week ahead of time!

So, I found a campground that was right off of I-81 at the TA fuel stop... the reviews weren't great, but it was convenient to the highway, and I figured that we could fuel up Gracie too. Unfortunately, when we got to the TA, all of the pumps were closed (I guess they were doing some asphalt work around them), but we were able to check into the campground...

It was actually a pretty nice campground "TA Campground at Lee Hi" -- we could keep the Jeep attached and fit into the full hookup site.

The truck stop was just down the hill below us, but with our HEPA filter running during the night, we didn't hear anything of the trucks through the night.

So, we drove from Lexington to Lexington (KY to VA) and got a few miles further down the road.
