We have both completed our volunteer assignments at the International Linguistics Center.
Right now, we are staying in Miss Doozie at the ILC (we just arrived back on February 10 after a week in Galveston at the beautiful Galvestonian where Janell now lives).
Carl's RV is in the shop getting some maintenance completed; when he and his daughter and granddaughters were driving from Illinois to Arizona last fall, in Wyoming, he ran into some severe winds that ended up ripping the awning off of his rig.
The hardware was totally ripped off, leaving the awning fabric hanging down the side - which he and his daughter ultimately had to cut off (the next day after the winds were a little less severe). |
We have a number of things that we need to get accomplished - or at least get *started* - changing my name on my Texas driver's license, having Carl become a Texan (get a Texas driver's license), changing my name with Social Security, both of us updating our passports (they both expire in the next 3 months). All of these, we want to at least get started before leaving Texas, the *first* time.
The plan is to drive both RVs to Virginia and consolidate down to one rig there, storing things that we don't want "now" but may want later in the container that we have there. We don't really want to caravan with both RVs, so we're planning to drive Miss Doozie to Virginia, and then, when Carl's RV is finished at the repair shop, fly back to Texas and drive his rig to Virginia too. Thus... we'll be leaving Texas "twice", once with Miss Doozie, and a second time with Carl's rig.
So... that's what is going on right now, and what our near future plans look like. We have to go to Livingston to do part of Carl becoming a Texan.
