Tuesday around town

On Tuesday, we had appointments with our dermatologist in Dallas, so took a slight detour by Crisis Ministries (food pantry) where we had volunteered when we were staying in the Dallas area before we got married.

The pantry has changed some since we volunteered there...

... the clients are now allowed to "shop" for themselves... with items displayed on shelves and indications of how many of each type of item they can take (e.g. 5 cans of vegetables, but they can choose which types of vegetables they take).

A volunteer helps at the refrigerated and freezer section to get them meats and dairy products which their family would prefer, or types that they have facilities for cooking (some folks have only a microwave oven for heating foods).

The changes were in plan prior to COVID, but during the time of the shutdown, the volunteers were able to get it implemented. The clients seem to be happy with the changes, and the hope is that there is less waste since they get to select what they can use.

On our way to the dermatologist, we drove past downtown Dallas -- it was a hazy day, but still enjoyed seeing the skyline.

After our visits with the doctor, we headed over to Rowlett to visit with Peggy and Bill. It was so good to get to see them! (Unfortunately, we forgot to get pictures!)
