We pulled up our stakes in Kaibab National Forest on Wednesday morning and started heading east -- we were heading to Kodachrome Basin State Park near Cannonville, Utah. When I first put the location into the Garmin, it indicated that the next park was 107 miles away -- as the crow flies. Unfortunately, in a vehicle, it was 293 miles! There are not very many roads in this area of the country, and the shortest distance is sometimes a really big S-curve to avoid big holes in the ground (aka canyons) and stuff...

The map from RV Trip Wizard shows that we would be ending up almost
directly north of where we were boondocking south of the Grand Canyon --
but it would require a round-about route to get there! |
We were leaving the Grand Canyon by the east entrance (we had come in through the south entrance). We decided to stop at Desert View for some last views of the canyon. I had checked the satellite view of the parking areas and it appeared that there could be spots that Gracie + the Jee-rage could fit into, as long as other vehicles had not already parked there (we have often found that cars park in the extra long spots when they run out of car parking spaces). When we got to Desert View, there was plenty of parking -- in the regular parking lot, as well as in the lot which was designated as being for RVs and vehicles towing.

After all the wind and blowing dust, it was a beautiful day. |

We could see the Colorado River far below. |

Carl was out near the edge taking pictures. |

He got this one looking down into the canyon with a better view of the Colorado River. |

I joined him near the edge and we did this selfie... |

... then a fellow-traveler offered to take our pictures and we agreed! |

We enjoyed all the views from this part of the canyon. |

As Carl commented, it is pretty amazing, with all the open airspace out here, and especially back in the 1950s when there were a lot fewer planes in the sky, that two would be in the exact same location and altitude at the same time. (Carl said he had watched a "Mayday" about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=ofZn2R_pZec if you're interested in seeing some of the changes that were implemented as a result of the findings from this crash.) |

We are always amazed and humbled by the beauty of God's creation!
