Lebanon Valley Rail Trail

When we got to Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, we were ecstatic to have a stay of more than a week -- actually 12(!!) days! We had seen that there were several bike trails in the area, and we figured we'd had plenty of time to check several out!

We went on one down by the Susquehanna on Saturday, but there was one right near the campground that we had not yet gotten on... Wednesday was the day we picked to ride the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail.

Only Class 1 E-bikes - so we disconnected the cables for our throttles. We've never had anyone check when we're on a trail that has this limitation, and we could probably just ride and not use the throttle, but, in case someone checks, we just disconnect the cable.

We got on the trail at about the midway point -- we weren't sure which way would be the most interesting to ride, but we had read about a trestle on the trail, and the way we turned happened to go across the trestle pretty soon after we started. We had also read that the trail went across a number of streets and the traffic was not very kind to stop at the bike trail crossings -- the way we went did not have many crossings and at almost every one, the traffic stopped for us to cross.

Pretty shady trail - we were grateful for the shade - the temperature was mid-80s and warm in the sunshine, but very comfortable in the shade.

Pretty overpass over the trail

We were discussing that, when this was a railroad line, the engineer had these views, and maybe the passengers, but now anyone who was willing to walk or bike could enjoy these pretty places!

Information about The History of Railroads through Cornwall -- provided along the trail:

Interesting information about the rivalry between the railroads!

The lower picture is of the truss bridge that we crossed on our bikes.

There was a crew replacing the reflective markings at the road crossing for the trail near where we parked.

There was a large barrel at the parking lot where we joined the trail.

"The Root Beer Barrel at LVRT" - evidently they sell teeshirts and maybe cold beverages on the weekends.

We rode about 12 miles, and then Carl rode another 3+ miles -- he said he wanted to burn off some of the smorgasbord from the previous day!

A nice trail - part asphalt and part fine gravel. The part we rode was beautiful through forests and along the back of some neighborhoods.
