The Mennonite Life Visitors Center has an exhibit area that provides information about what Mennonites and Amish believe and how they are similar and different.
The Mennonites and Amish both trace back to Anabaptists |
Dwayne and I had visited this visitors center many years ago (pre-RVing! a LONG time ago!) and I remember understanding for the first time why the government had persecuted the Anabaptists... I had thought, "Why would the state care whether someone was baptized as an infant or whether people waited until they had their own belief to be baptized?" Well, as in all things, "follow the money" -- the individual went onto the tax rolls at baptism -- believers baptism messed up that strategy!
An interesting story:
The memorial would be interesting to visit if we ever go to Goessel, Kansas! |
The exhibit was much the same as I remembered from many years ago, but since my mind doesn't remember everything, it was good as a reminder, and Carl appreciated learning there too!
