We left Freightliner Custom Chassis Service Center this morning (Friday morning). They did a lot more testing on Thursday afternoon, and replaced the light bar (the one that had been replaced on Tuesday but they got one that was a newer model) as well as *all* of the gauges. We talked with one of the managers and we all agreed that an intermittent problem is the hardest to debug - we talked about what would happen with a loose connection (we'd lose the gauges *as* we were driving, which was never the case), and that they had done ground tracing and found no signs of a bad ground. But, as we talked with him about what we had experienced, specifics about the circumstances when it first failed and the way it had failed as we continued, he seemed to get some thoughts about what the problem could be. The absolutely best news is that we have tried turning the ignition on multiple times through the evening on Thursday and Friday morning, and we stopped several times on our drive today, including at the fateful rest area where it failed on Wednesday and sent us back -- each and every time it has worked fine. So, we are hopeful that either the new light bar or the new gauges have fixed the problem. The best news is that they made all of the changes that that did after we returned for NO charge! We certainly did not expect that, but it was nice after the frustration we've gone through with this problem.

Gracie at one of the rest areas where we stopped (in North Carolina) - where we turned Gracie off and she started up without a problem! |
We have stopped for the night at Tamarack in Beckley, WV.

We walked around and looked at some of the beautiful items that West Virginia artisans have made - they are so lovely to look at!
We were hoping for cooler weather... it is a little better here than in Gaffney, SC, but... it is still pretty warm!
