There is a large project in Venture Out to remove the palm trees in the easement behind the homes because the roots are getting into the sewer pipes. They had removed the trees on the west side of the park last year and are now removing the trees on the east side (where our lot is). They were on our block this morning (Tuesday) and we got some pictures and video.
These trees are behind the houses/RVs so the removal has to be done without bringing the trees down on top of the structures.
Earlier in the morning, they were across from our friends' Bob and Laura's home. |
The guy in the cherry picker ties a rope around the top part, and then around the trunk... |
Then he cuts between the top and the rope on the trunk: |
Meanwhile, we ended up going up on the roof of Gracie to put the vent cover back on the kitchen fan:
We had taken it off because we thought it may shade one of the solar panels, but decided that having it on was beneficial as it allows us to use the fan when it is rainy. |
And then, the tree removal crew had moved right across the street from our lot:
We were a little concerned about whether we would be able to get Gracie out since we were planning to leave on Tuesday... |
But we enjoyed watching another tree topping:
After taking the top with the foliage off the tree, they then take other segments of the trunk, and eventually take the whole tree down, including grinding out the stump.
They have not yet taken out the trees in the easement behind our lot, so we're glad that we'll be taking Gracie out before they will be doing that. I'm sure that they are very professional, but... just as well to move our "house" out before trees are being taken down in the area!
