Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni

Since we changed our route to get to Texas, and traveled a little more quickly, we had 3 nights at Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni, east of Dallas, instead of just one as we had originally planned. We had a very busy first day as we left the campground and went to the State Fair of Texas, but the Friday that we were there had no specific plans so we spent a relaxing day.

Thousand Trails campgrounds have started assigning sites in the past year or so -- previously, when we got to the campground, we had to drive around to find an available site that we could fit into. The days that we planned to stop at a Thousand Trails campground were anxiety producing as we wondered how long it would take us to find a site and how bad (or good!) it might be. A lot of Thousand Trails members are not very happy with the assigned site change, but we've found it to be great for us so far. This was a nice site, we could get into it relatively easily, it was mostly level, and had full hookups.

It was surprising, though, that we really did not see any other campers outside their rigs during the time we were there. It was a bit warm, so maybe that was the reason.

On our relaxing day, we decided to take the Jeep and drive around the campground -- it is a very large property and has multiple resources for the members camping ...

This was inside one of the clubhouses (there are two) - it was a large building with lots of games and meeting spaces inside. We didn't go into the other clubhouse, but it looked like it was even larger.

As we got to the furthest end of the campground, the sun was about to sink into Lake Tawakoni...

... so Carl jumped out to get some pictures...

Can you hear the "hiss" as the sun sinks into the lake?

And... it's gone!

For the most part, we enjoy using our Thousand Trails membership and it works well for us.
