A visit to Casey - part 1

When we got to Horseshoe Lakes, I was looking at tips provided by other campers in the past to this campground on CampgroundReviews (https://www.campgroundreviews.com/regions/indiana/clinton/thousand-trails-horseshoe-lakes-6690), and more than one mentioned a visit to Casey, Illinois. I did some internet searching (which was challenging because internet service was "iffy") and we decided it sounded interesting (one of the articles: https://www.travelawaits.com/2490383/how-to-spend-a-day-casey-illinois/). Since we were only staying at Horseshoe Lakes for 3 nights, we decided to go on Wednesday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We took a *lot* of pictures, so I'm going to blog about it in a few parts -- we have now (today, Thursday, 9/24) moved to Indian Lakes near Batesville, Indiana, and the internet service is still not *great*, so I don't want to be uploading a lot of pictures.

Casey, Illinois is known for being a small town with big things (https://www.bigthingssmalltown.com/).

Just *some* of the attractions listed on the exit sign off the interstate.

When we got to downtown, we easily found parking and started walking around.

The first "big thing" we found was a yard stick that is 36 feet long rather than 36 inches.

Nearby was the worlds largest wind chime.

Inside the garden for the windchime...

... was a Bible verse: "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God that bring salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew then to the Gentile" Romans 1:16 NIV. You may be able to see the star of David over "Jew" in the verse and a fish symbol over "Gentile". If you look back at the picture of the windchime, you can see both symbols incorporated in the support structure.

Across the street was a giant rocking chair -- we were starting to feel that we had been shrunk! See Carl in comparison to the chair?

Another Bible verse...

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you."

The verse was right at the front end of the right side rocker.

Pretty garden areas around each display.

Directional sign to some of the main attractions

Across the road diagonally from the chair was the teeter-totter

Unfortunately we weren't there on a Saturday when there would be an attendant so you could actually "teeter-totter" on the teeter-totter! I had read that a whole busfull of people could ride on the teeter-totter!

The gate was open so we could walk up the teeter-totter...

... and find the verse on the far end: Proverbs 16:11 (NLT) "The Lord demands accurate scales and balances, he sets the standards for fairness."

A picture of the rocking chair from the teeter-totter...

As well as a picture of the wind chimes from the teeter-totter. At the base of the wind chimes (where the people are standing) there is a rope that you can pull to make them chime. I'm not certain how often wind makes them chime by itself (it would need to be a pretty robust wind).

I had made a list of 16 items that we were going to try to find in and around Casey -- so far, you've seen pictures of 4 of them! More in another post!
