On Sunday, we appreciated the opportunity to join our church family in Irving, TX via livestream. Since the dry camping area at the Kofa Ko-Op Escapees park has pretty limited generator hours (8-10am, 4-7pm), and since we have an all-electric coach (no propane stove), we decided to head out for lunch and were able to eat Mexican food on an outdoor patio at Chretin's Restaurant and Cantina. Dwayne and I had found it a few years ago, and Carl and I enjoyed our meal there and had enough leftovers for another meal.
We then went to the Arizona Marketplace. There aren't as many shops open there as I remember from past years, but still a nice selection of items.
A couple of interesting signs from the marketplace:
The sign hanging above says, "No Returns on Used Sewer Parts" - well, duh, I think that would be anticipated, but maybe they have learned that it needs to be stated! |
This sign was available for purchase... we thought it was funny! |
We then stopped at a couple of places that Dwayne and I had liked in Yuma -- Southwest Exchange which is a hardware / RV/Camping supply store, and we drove past Cactus Blossom RV Retreat which was where Dwayne and I would normally stay -- I had called to see if they had availability but they were full into February. Friends that we had met there a few years ago had let me know a few months ago that the park had been sold and the sites were a little more expensive but still a good value. Carl liked Southwest Exchange and we got a few items that we had needed -- again for the solar setup! Maybe eventually we'll be finished with all the things that we want to get finished on it!
On Sunday evening,
we had noticed that there was an Ice Cream Social -- and the lady who came to welcome us to the park had given us free coupons for ice cream -- so we wanted to attend! |
It was a fun time - probably about 20 people there. If we had had to pay, it would have been $1 for a large scoop of ice cream and lots of toppings available. But, as first time guests, ours was free! We had a nice conversation with another couple who are relatively new (1.5 years) to fulltime RVing and it was nice to have the opportunity to talk.
On Monday, we were still in the dry camp area...
... though quite a rain storm had come through (hard rain with lightning, uncommon here!) so the dry camp area was a bit damp! |
We walked over to pay for two more nights, and the lady at the desk said that she thought they could move us to a full hookup (FHU) site today. So, we went back to the rig to wait for the host to come get us and take us to our new site:
We're happy to have a site with water and electric... and not to be limited by generator hours anymore! And... we'll be able to dump before we leave. |
We had discussed that if we got a FHU site by Monday, that we would stay in Yuma for a week, but leave on Wednesday if we were still in dry camp. However, we had done most of the things we wanted to do while we were in Yuma, and we have plans to meet with folks for lunch on Tuesday and do the remainder of the things we wanted to do... so we decided to just plan to park in the FHU site until Wednesday. We can still extend to a week if we want (price is $24/day for daily - including electric, and $100/week+electric for weekly), but we're thinking we want to visit Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and still get back to Mesa by 2/2 (our anniversary), so the 2 days may be sufficient.
One more picture of the dry camp area:
They have 11 dry campsites -- the rigs would be really close together if all sites were full, but they try to position the RVs so no one is right next to another rig. |
We enjoyed having power in our new site to make our lunch -- we heated up the ribs that we had leftover from Saturday and they were just as good as the first day. We also heated up the leftovers from Chretin's and enjoyed having southern BBQ ribs and Mexican beans and rice and chili con carne. Yum!
