On Thursday -- one of the couples camped with us has electric bikes and offered to let us try them -- we rode down the road that we usually walk down. It took a few minutes to get used to the power assist, but we got the hang of it and found the assist to be helpful, especially on a steep uphill climb.
We have been considering getting an electric bike (or two) and have been planning to go to a bike store and try them out, but it was really nice getting to try our friends' bikes and see how they work "out in the wild"!
Based on the bike riding we are doing right now (relatively flat, and for exercise rather than for transportation), we are thinking that regular bikes meet our needs better. But, if our needs change, e-bikes may be in our future!
