The Spanish Moss Trail

We had looked up bike trails near Yemassee and, on Wednesday, headed off to find the Spanish Moss Trail in Beaufort.

We got the bikes out at the Westvine Drive Trailhead.

It is pretty near the southern end of the trail (the current southern end - there are plans to extend the trail further). Information about the trail can be found at https://www.spanishmosstrail.com/

Trees in the area provided a consistent view of the trail's namesake (Spanish Moss).

It was a nice, mostly-level concrete trail.

There were a few places where the trail crossed a water inlet...

... sometimes there were docks (in this picture there are buildings at the ends of the docks, but they are hard to see due to the sun's angle).

A zoomed-in view of the gazebos(?), bungalows(?), pavilions (?), dock houses(?) (I don't know exactly what they are!)

Just once the trail went under a cross street -- at many streets we had to carefully watch for traffic, and at others we had to wait for a pedestrian walk light.

One of the places we needed to stop for a pedestrian walk light was across from the entrance to the Marine Corps Air Station - Beaufort.

The section of the Spanish Moss trail near the MCAS was sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Pretty areas

I am so impressed that Carl can take pictures *while* we are riding!

At one point along the trail there was a still-operating 2-screen drive-in theater! (https://hwy21drivein.com/)

At another point, the path went through an old warehouse...

... it had been nicely cleaned up.

A little further down the path...

... a derelict building which had been the Seacoast Packing Company (https://www.scpictureproject.org/beaufort-county/seacoast-packing-company.html)

We ended up with just under 20 miles of riding - it was good to get out on our bikes. Every time we use them, we enjoy them so much!
