On Saturday, we continued west in Maryland, going from I-70 to I-68, crossing into West Virginia, then onto I-79 heading north toward Washington, Pennsylvania, before re-joining I-70 to continue west going through West Virginia (the northern peninsula) and then into Ohio. By not staying on I-70 from Maryland into Pennsylvania, we missed the toll portion of I-70 where it is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike while driving about the same distance in miles.

After having rain most of the drive on Friday, we were happy to start with sun and puffy clouds...
... there were some beautiful views as we drove through western Maryland, just south of the Pennsylvania border.

Pretty valleys

We hop-scotched this truck a couple of times -- I thought the back tractor was interesting because it was so low to the ground...
The truck soon passed us again (I think this was the last time). Also from their website: "A low height of 6 ft 2 inches and a narrow width of 6 ft enables this
JCB telescopic handler to access the smallest of operating environments.
With a compact wheelbase and large steering lock angles, a tight
turning radius and superior maneuverability are assured."

Carl and I were talking about how we've seen short "tractors" like that to tow airplanes at airports, but I took pictures so I could look up more information later to find out more about how this would be used (which I did while preparing this blog post!).

I think this is Cumberland, Maryland -- we could see so many church steeples all at the same time...
... another view of the church steeples.

And some of the properties outside of town...
... more of the residences outside of town. This may have been closer to Frostburg.
We finally crossed into West Virginia after traveling across Maryland from Frederick to the West Virginia line.
Then it clouded up and rained for much of the rest of our drive -- including hail as we traveled in Ohio from Cambridge to Zanesville.
We stopped at McDonald's Greenhouse (also a Harvest Host) near Zanesville for Saturday night...
They had a donut truck...
... and coffee truck on site, as well as lots of plants for purchase.
It was a longer-than-normal driving day for us -- almost 300 miles. We prefer about 200 miles max, but I wasn't able to get the bookings at Harvest Hosts that I was hoping for, so we did more miles than normal. We were glad to get stopped and know that we didn't have a long drive on Sunday.
