Sofa no more, Desk instead!

I blogged a couple of weeks ago that we had advertised our sleeper sofa on Craigslist (https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2022/04/sofa-for-sale.html). While we were at Soledad Canyon (Palmdale area/ LA County), we got several contacts -- most were spam. We got one contact that we thought was a real person really interested in the sofa. He was going to come -- he wanted to be sure we wouldn't sell it before he got there because he had over a 2 hour drive to get to where we were -- he was going to come one of two days... we didn't hear from him at all on the first day, so the second potential day we reached out to him by text... and he didn't respond. Oh well...

So, when we moved to San Benito, we re-posted in the new location on Craigslist. We got one contact that seemed spam-like, but that was all. We again re-posted in the new location when we moved to Morgan Hill, and got no contacts - no spam, no real contacts, nothing! We kept on checking to see that it was really listed... couldn't believe absolutely no contacts! Until Monday! We were contacted by a fellow, Matt, that sounded genuinely interested; he would come on Tuesday to see it and hopefully buy it. We went through the process to let the campground know that we would have a visitor coming (it was a non-trivial process but Carl went through all the steps!), and Matt came on Tuesday, but the campground would not allow him to enter! They have a zero-tolerance policy that all vehicles must have proof of insurance to enter the campground. Matt had renewed his policy, but didn't have a printed out card, and his cellular service did not work at the campground, so he couldn't bring it up online... oh my! So close and yet so far!

So, Carl went to get him at the entrance, and drove him into the campground in our Jeep (which many of you know is also our garage (Jee-rage) - full of stuff in the back). Matt came into Gracie, did some measurements to ensure that the sofa would fit into his RV, we started figuring out the steps of how it could be taken apart, and he agreed to buy it.

So... now to get it to his car which is at the entrance of the campground. While Carl and Matt worked on taking the sofa apart, I worked on removing things from the Jeep so the sofa could be put into it. We were amazed but it fit! We had thought we might have to leave the back hatch open, but it even closed up. We drove the Jeep to the entrance where Matt's car was parked (Matt and Carl walked cuz there was no usable place to sit in the Jeep other than the driver's seat). We then transferred the sofa in pieces to Matt's car and he and the sofa were on their way!

We had a folding table that we had thought that we would use to "try out" the two-person desk concept, and we brought it in on Tuesday afternoon... but... since we had the ad on Craigslist, I had done some searching and realized that this area was a pretty great area to acquire used office furniture. We had decided that we would like to get a desk that would have the legs way at the ends of the top, a desk top that would be 72"x29", and two desk chairs, and maybe a two drawer file cabinet. I found a company that appeared to have all the components that we wanted, so we went there on Wednesday.

We forgot to take a picture while the folding table was being used, but this shows the space where the sofa used to be with our printer sitting in the middle of it (after we had taken the folding table down).

TekBenches was a new & used office furniture warehouse in downtown San Jose...

We had decided that we wanted to get a base that was configurable in height and width -- Carl showing it being used as a standing desk...

The adjustment panel to raise/lower the desk.

Carl at a sitting height.

We wanted the adjustable width to be sure that the legs could be at the outer edge of the desk top so the legs would not interfere with either of us while using the desk.

The fellows at the shop put together the base that we were purchasing with the larger top that we wanted - they put it all together, showed us that it worked, and then they took it apart so we could fit it into the Jeep.

The desk top and legs (the base was compressed to its narrowest width and lowest height to fit into the Jeep).

I forgot to get a picture, but we purchased two desk chairs and they were also in there, and we both fit in the front seats too!

After getting home, all that was needed was for us to put it back together just as the fellows at the shop had done. We set about to do this on Thursday afternoon. We were thankful that it was in two pieces as both the top and the base are pretty heavy! We brought them both in and proceeded to re-assemble the desk on the floor of Gracie...

I secured the wires (the fellows at the shop had provided us with all the wire ties and screws).

We got it set up, got our chairs and computers in place, and...

Voila! We have a two-person desk!

We are not anticipating using the automatic raising and lowering, and we're definitely not planning to use it as a stand-up desk, but... we figured the automatic adjustment capability would help us get the desk configured to be most comfortable for our use.

Just one more picture...

After serving as a moving truck for two days in a row, the Jee-rage is back to its accustomed use as a combination Jeep and garage!

So, we are minus one sofa (we still have the jack-knife sofa) and plus one desk and two chairs! We are looking forward to having a dining table that is used for dining, and no longer a multi-purpose space for dining and office/computer work.
