After getting Carl's bike correctly adjusted, we took a ride along the Columbia River just below our campground on Wednesday.

A map of the area and bike path
Part of the path was along a golf course (with signs saying, "Watch for flying golf balls!")
A deer that we saw in the scrub just beyond the golf course
At the south end of the path, we stopped and Carl went down to check the water temperature -- he said it was pretty cool, but not cold.
Looking further south, we could see smoke from a fire.
Looking north
Looking west across the river
Part of the trail was gravel...
... but most of it was asphalt.
There was portion that was like a boardwalk -- it was a little nerve-wracking threading our way through the barriers designed to keep golf carts out.
The path ended at steps going up to a housing community.
Back at the rig.
Later in the day, we were sitting outside at the rig of folks across from us...
The fire, whose smoke we had seen from down at the south end of the bike path, had grown during the day.
Dry and windy conditions
Quite an impact on the sunset.

I made this screen capture from the InciWeb incident report about the Vantage Road Fire (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/8303/). We are located where I put the blue arrow - across the river from the fire. We drove along I-90 on Sunday - that's the road that is just south of the fire boundary. It appears the fire started on Sunday night/Monday morning at about midnight.

We had hoped to try riding the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail (https://www.traillink.com/trail/palouse-to-cascades-state-park-trail/) on Thursday, but decided that the smoke might be too heavy in that area. In this area of the country, we need to keep aware of fire danger as we are out-and-about.
