FMCA - The Peaceful Invasion - 1973

A few weeks ago, we attended the 106th FMCA Convention held in Perry, GA. I was looking up information on FMCA and noticed on the history page that there was a picture of a Blue Bird Wanderlodge involved in the distribution of coffee and donuts.

Just as now, various manufacturers participated in providing goods and services to make their brand more well known.

The website (https://www.fmca.com/fmca-event-history) shows different historical pictures so the Blue Bird is not always on it.

I mentioned this to a Blue Bird friend, and she suggested a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epmm1NM-JTA (the video seems to start at the point that RVs are leaving "Jubilee 73", so you may need to push the display slider back to see the whole thing.

When we were at the Perry convention, we were discussing what the convention would have looked like when there were 6000+ coaches there in 1996 -- so this video shows what it looked like 21 years earlier. I noted that towed vehicles seemed uncommon, and it was not clear to me whether there were electrical hookups or not.

Here's a fellow Blue Birders commentary on the video:

This You Tube video popped up randomly on my computer. I remember this convention well. Some of the hotspots at the following times:
2:20 - Bluebird
3:33 - I believe one of the early original SP's (like Randy's 71).
9:42 - Donut Wagon
11:31 - Bird in the background
17:11 - Bird on the right
18:10 - Donut Wagon Coffee Cup
18:34 - Bird in the background
19:22 - National Motor Home (National was started by ex-BB employee's. They were produced somewhere close to Fort Valley, but my memory escapes as to remembering exactly where they were built.

This video brought back many memories.

Another historic video -- this one from the FMCA convention in Richmond, VA, in 1989, with a visit by President George Bush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOUe39MrkRA -- the first few minutes he cracks some jokes before going into a speech on various funding and reforms that he was wanting to highlight.
