We left the Port of Manhattan at 4pm on Saturday...
Port of Manhattan |
Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum with the Empire State Building in the background (left of center) |
A view of the pool area during sail-away |
One of the folks standing next to us at the rail lives in NYC half the year and Columbia the other half -- he told us that many of the piers along Manhattan were damaged in Hurricane Sandy, and the city has had them re-created into public spaces -- the area in the front right (looks like huge high heel shoes) is a park (https://hudsonriverpark.org/). |
Approaching downtown NYC |
Just barely able to see top of World Trade Center |
Approaching Liberty Island on the starboard side |
The sail-away party on the pool deck played Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" as we passed the Statue of Liberty.... |
Selfie with Lady Liberty in the background (we're both sporting windblown looks!). |
We stopped in the Spinnaker lounge to watch a dance class... |
... headed to the buffet for prime rib dinner...
... and wrapped up our first evening with a comedy show in the Stardust Theater. |
We're having a great time!
