Monday at Sea

Monday was a sunny day at sea...

We started with breakfast in the Grand Pacific Dining Room -- beautiful large space at the back of the ship.

We attended a session with information about "Running a Floating Hotel"...

Information about our ship

Some statistics I copied:

  • The main laundry operates 24 hours a day. There are 6 large washers each with a capacity of 256 pounds of laundry! (in addition to other smaller washers)
  • The main hot galley (kitchen) connects the two main dining rooms (Grand Pacific and Magenta). They load the majority of the food on in NY because they have trusted, certified suppliers there. I think he said that they load 20 60' containers for a week. That includes 46,000 eggs, 500 gallons of ice cream (that doesn't count the soft serve ice cream), 22,000 pounds of fruits and 22,000 pounds of vegetables, 12,000 pounds of beef, 35,000 bottles of beer.
  • On deck 4 is what is known as I95 (I'm not sure whether it is named for the interstate or the immigration form -- I'm thinking the latter) -- containing the offices for crew access, crew mess (there are 60+ nationalities in the crew so the crew mess caters to the different wants and desires of the crew), crew internet cafe -- the crew members have access to Rosetta Stone for language learning, and free access to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to communicate with family. There is a training room where classes are held daily -- safety and emergency readiness are very important. There is a crew shop for necessities, crew gym open 24/7, crew living area, crew enrichment activities and activity administrator.
General Manager Roland Schrock and the Food and Beverage Director Vikram Mohindra were present to answer questions (Cruise Director Paquito Fuchs  is standing to the side)

Country dance class in late morning

The Facebook group that we joined (specific to this cruise) met for Left Right Center play in one of the board rooms.

The "Not So" Newlywed Game (couples were 6 months, 27 years, and 57 years married) -- the couple married 27 years were the winners!

Always many things that we could be doing on-board!
