Since our cruise left on the 15th of April, the 112th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, I had seen some comparisons between the largest of current cruise ships and the Titanic:

Titanic vs Wonder of the Seas -- one of the largest of current cruise ships -- our ship, the Norwegian Gem, is a smaller sized ship |
From https://www.cruisehive.com/titanic-vs-modern-cruise-ship-how-do-they-compare/51627:
The Titanic was…
- 48,328 GRT
- 882 feet, 9 inches long
- With 9 decks
- And a passenger capacity of 2,435, with a crew of 892
[In 2022, the] current, largest, in-service cruise ship [was] Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. It measures…
- 228,081 GT
- 1,184 feet long
- With 18 decks
- And a passenger capacity of 6,680 passengers and a crew of 2,200
The Wonder of the Seas debuted in 2022 with similar size to Symphony of the Seas.
Norwegian's Gem is a bit smaller among modern cruise ships (information from ncl.com: https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/gem)
- 93,530 GRT
- 965 feet long
- With 15 decks
- Passenger capacity of 2,394 and crew of 1070
Anyway,
as people who were on the same cruise with us were commenting on the
Titanic sinking anniversary being our sail-away date, a picture of
perhaps some questionable Transatlantic humor was posted:
Someone on one of the Facebook groups we were following posted a picture of the Gem as she was passing the Statue of Liberty on her way to port on April 15, Saturday morning, before we boarded.

We had tried to watch for it from our hotel, but too many obstructions between us. |
No, we're not still on the cruise, but I had looked up this information a couple of weeks ago and decided to go ahead and post it!
