Happy birth-day!

One of Regina's Jersey cows was due to give birth on 5/6... and had previously given birth early, so we've been on "calf watch".

Saturday afternoon, Morning Glory was resting, her utter was distended, her hips were "loose" so the birth canal would be open for the calf to be delivered...

This morning, we got waked up and couldn't see Morning Glory out our window, so we decided to walk out and see if we could find her...

We found the other 3 dairy cows in the lot, but then found Morning Glory out in the pasture... when we first saw her, she was laying down, and there was an odd shadow near her....

We worked our way through the handling system to get closer to her...

And Carl got a picture of the "odd shadow" that was near Morning Glory...

Morning Glory was not super happy about us being there...

Regina came out to milk and was calling Jimmy to give the birth announcement (while "Duracell" (copper top calf) was wondering where her bottle was and why it was being delayed!

Eventually Morning Glory took the calf up toward the barn (you can see the RVs behind her).

The other Jerseys were looking on...

Duracell is wondering why breakfast is still being delayed!

Finally Duracell got her bottle!
