Ludington State Park

On Sunday, we moved from Poncho's Pond RV Park in Ludington a short ways north and west to Ludington State Park, right on Lake Michigan. When we were talking about joining the Blue Bird Rally a couple of months ago, Carl mentioned that they had visited Ludington State Park as a family about 30 years ago. I checked, and was able to find a spot that could accommodate us, so we booked it for a few days after the Blue Bird Rally.

The skies were very threatening as we got to the campground, so we hurried to get the Jeep unhooked and Gracie parked. We had just gotten settled when it started raining.

After an hour or so, the rain stopped, though it was still very cloudy and threatening to rain more. We decided to head out on our bikes -- Carl wanted to see if he could recognize where they camped when they were here before. We biked through each of the campground loops, but he didn't see anything that looked familiar.

Along the way, we came across some turkeys:

They were obviously not concerned about being invited for Thanksgiving dinner...

It started sprinkling again, so we headed back to Gracie.

Monday started out cloudy and rainy, but cleared up by afternoon, so we headed out for some biking and hiking...

We rode our bikes over to where the "Skyline Trail" access could be found, and, after climbing a large number of steps, found ourselves overlooking the dunes...

... looking southwest toward Ludington and Lake Michigan.

After walking on the Skyline Trail, we headed back to the bikes, and as we came through the woods, saw something come out from behind the tree...

Can you see the deer peering at us from behind the tree?

If she had not moved, we probably would not have seen her.

We just sat quietly for a while and enjoyed seeing the deer and a squirrel (no pictures of the squirrel).

We rode our bikes to the end of the boardwalk for the Sable River Trail.

The Sable River Trail goes right along the river, and, in some places there are access points down into the river - not sure whether that is for kayak / canoe access or some other purpose.

It had turned off bright and sunny and warmed up quite a bit.

Headed back toward the park and campground.

We stopped at the "Beach House". There were exhibits inside, and we then enjoyed sitting out on benches located on the deck up above the beach.

Obligatory selfie with Lake Michigan behind us.
