These were pictures we took at Paul Wolff campground where we were staying last week near Elgin, Illinois:

Uhm... I don't think that limo can pull that 5th wheel!

Nope, not gonna happen!

Pretty sunset!

Repair project: We don't usually put the slide out on the passenger side in the living
room area, but, we had put it out when we were in Elgin because of the
large group we had a week or so ago (https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2021/09/a-crowd-of-cousins.html). Because of that, Carl noticed that
the crown molding at the ceiling had come loose and was hanging down, and he
wanted to try to get it fixed before we brought the slide back in. He
got his brad air nailer from son Scott as the access to the area where
we needed to attach the trim was limited and there was no way we could use a regular hammer in there.
|
We forgot to get a picture before we started, but... this was after we'd
worked on it a little while... we had managed to get the trim back up -- attached by the brads that originally attached it to the wall -- it
wasn't going to stay but at least they got it into place, and then we
used various pill bottles to hold it in place while we were nailing... |
|
Looking down toward the end where it had really come down -- with additional pill bottles holding it up at that end too. |
|
Carl started trying to use the brad air nailer to re-attach the trim
piece, but there just was not much room. To get the nail to go in to a
part of the trim that was narrow enough for the brad to reach, we needed
a different angle. |
|
My arms were thinner, so we decided I should try... and we brought the
slide in part-way so there was enough room for the brad air nailer to
get inside the upper part of the slide out -- unfortunately at that
point, the trim on the ceiling was right above the edge of the slide, so
my arm didn't fit so well either -- we eventually got the slide enough
in but not too far in... |
|
Carl got this picture of me trying to operate the brad air nailer -- at
the point he took the picture, the nailer was below the trim piece, but, I was
eventually able to get it onto the trim piece and put several nails into
place. |
|
This picture gives a little perspective on the area where we were
working -- on top of the slide over the kitchen area. We were using our
dining room chairs as step stools and negotiating between the ceiling
and the top of the slide. |
It wasn't a major job, but it was certainly a pain to get accomplished
with the tight quarters. We figure that the folks who built the rig put
the trim piece in place before the slide was there, and they put the
nails in on an angle from the bottom -- which meant that the bouncing of
the rig as we go over rough roads eventually pulled those brads out of
the wall. The ones we put in were more horizontal, so we're hopeful that
they will stay in better -- but time will tell!
