On Monday, Linda had mapped us a route south past Yachats for views and sights along that way!
We started by heading toward Newport to visit South Beach Fish Market for lunch.
Every time we drove by this eating place, there was a line of people waiting to place their orders - we figured it must have good food, and we were not disappointed!
After lunch, we headed south, first stopping at Little Creek Scenic Overlook -- looking north...
... looking west...
... and looking south.
Linda and Jim...
Patti and Carl.
We continued south, stopping at a few places along the way to enjoy the beautiful coast...
This was Devil's Churn viewpoint -- even though it was supposed to be best at high tide, and we were within an hour or so of high tide, it was not really churning...
... another fellow who stopped while we were there said that the ocean was rather "flat" so I guess that was why there wasn't much of a show.
We drove a short distance further south to Thor's Well -- this was a picture from up near the parking area...
We took the path down to a closer vantage point.
There's also supposed to be a spouting horn here...
... again, supposed to be best a high tide, and... it was even closer to high tide...
Not much going on...
... but the views were beautiful!
From south of the tunnel, we could see Heceta Head Lighthouse back to the north.
Zoomed in a bit.
We decided not to go in to view the lighthouse up close, but rather to head back to the campground.
A picture of the Waldport bridge as we were heading north.
It was a beautiful day - a bit windy along the coast, but not unbearable. We had a great day for our Independence Day celebration (though we didn't participate in any parades or fireworks).
