We continued south down the coast on Otter Crest Loop, and turned off toward the ocean to view the area around Devils Punchbowl.

As we were driving to the parking area, there was a house with all these floats hanging on a tree!
|
We were grateful to find a parking spot just as another vehicle pulled out...

There was an entry into the punchbowl from the west (you can see the sun coming in), and also one to the north (right side of the opening).

Kayakers had come in the opening from the west and tried to go out the north side, but the rocks prevented them (maybe could have been done at high tide).

There's one of the kayakers inside the punchbowl.

There were quite a few surfers in the small bay to the south of the point -- the waves weren't huge, but they seemed to be enjoying it.

I think the point waaaay down south there is Yaquina Head.

As we were driving south on 101, we could see the lighthouse at the end of the point, so we drove in for a closer view of the lighthouse.

You may not be able to read the dates of the journal entries - the first one was June 25, 1879, and the second June 30, 1879.

There's a lighthouse growing out of my shoulder!

This is the only additional building still standing at Yaquina Head - I think it was the oil and wood house.
