The bed in Carl's rig was original to the rig (8 years old) and one of the springs had "sprung" causing a metal piece to stick out through the cover (and mattress pad). Since we are at the farm, and had access to the container, and since there was a king size sleep number bed stored in the container, we decided to take advantage of the situation and swap out the bed...

In process... the air chambers in place, getting the tubing hooked up. |
So far, the new bed seems to be working well - though it is a "real" king size bed, and the previous was an "RV king" which was slightly smaller and had radial (rounded) corners at the foot. That means that the new mattress completely *fills* the space, and then some (it hangs off a little at the foot). We checked to be sure that the slides could both come in without the bed causing a problem, and everything appeared to work fine. It also opened up a bit of space in the container, which is not a bad thing!
