Happy 4th Month-versary!

June 2 was our 4th "month-versary"!
Carl and I are trying to be intentional in celebrating and appreciating everything that we have together. While both of us appreciated our previous marriages, we both recognized that we did not say the true loving things often enough... so we have purposed to try to avoid that lack in our marriage.

Carl had wanted to take a bike ride along the "Virginia Capital Trail" which runs along Route 5 in Charles City County, the county next to where we are staying. https://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org/

We had seen the trail when we drove to Jamestown and Williamsburg back in March (https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/03/catching-up-from-march-14-2020-part-1.html, https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/03/catching-up-from-march-14-2020-part-2.html, https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/03/catching-up-from-march-14-2020-part-3.html), and it looked relatively flat and like it would be a good place to try out our bicycles. We've been so busy that we had not taken time to go, but since the weather was about to get warmer, and since we wanted to do something "special" to celebrate, we decided that June 2 was a good day to go!

We parked the car at "Herring Creek Trailhead" and decided to ride toward Charles City Courthouse.

I did not know that Carl was taking pictures as we rode...

And, I wasn't in front all the time!

The part of the trail we rode on had a nice mixture of riding through trees and on open areas. It had some small hills (just ups and downs or downs and ups), but was mostly flat. It was in the low 80s, so we appreciated that there was a nice breeze.

Carl had set a goal of 4 miles out, to be extended to 5 miles if we were feeling okay at 4... I was wondering if I'd make it past the 1 mile mark, but we both were feeling good at 4 miles so went on to 5 miles. I was glad we did, because I think the property where I went to school for 2nd and 3rd grade was at the place where we turned around...

I think that's River Edge Plantation

Zoomed in a little

When I went to school there, there was a building to the right of the main house (in the area where the building near the center of this picture is) which is where the 1st and 2nd grades were. I think this may be a new building since the school was there, or at least it has been improved since then. The original house building burned some years ago - what is currently there appears to be under construction.

There was an information sign, but no information about the property.

I found a video online about the house from about 10 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l12-xrcOzc

One of the folks who was in 2nd and 3rd grade with me had told me a while ago that the house had burned after that video was made.

I only could get a picture of Carl when we were stopped, because there was no way that I was skilled enough to take pictures and ride a bike at the same time! If I had planned better, he would not have been back-lit....

At nearly the end of our ride, Carl saw a gentleman getting out of his pickup truck and asked if he would take our picture.... he readily agreed!

Both of our bikes and the happy couple - still capable of smiling after almost 10 miles of biking (about an hour)... I know that doesn't seem like very far, but it has been a LONG time since I have ridden that far!

Carl has a workout app on his phone that he enabled to let us know how far we had gone and how fast we had traveled - here are screen captures from that:

It was a fun time together!  Happy 4th Month-versary to us!!!
