National Road Tour

John and Jane took us on a tour along the National Road.

County Courthouse in Cambridge -- decorations are started for the holidays!

Another view of the Guernsey County Courthouse - the National Road passes right in front of the Courthouse.

We drove through New Concord and then stopped at a preserved S-Bridge along the National Road.

National Road mile marker -- 190 miles from Cumberland, Maryland, Zanesville is 14 miles west, and Wheeling, West Virginia is 60 miles to the east. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Road)

Information about the S-Bridge

A view of the S-Bridge...

... with us on it!

A view of the bridge from down below.

The S-Bridge from the other end.

There was an information sign about Zane's Trace...

This information sign gave insight into the routes into this area.

... we were standing at the National Road, US 40 was right in front of us and the railroad just beyond. We could barely see traffic on I-70. Zane's Trace was not visible to us.

We retraced our drive to Cambridge (and stopped at Lee's Restaurant for lunch), and then continued east to Old Washington... where there are many homes that would have been there in the early days of the National Road.
I was asking if there was a "New Washington" and the signboard gave the answer:

This had been "New Washington", "Washington", and finally "Old Washington"!

A fun journey around Byesville, Ohio!
