Biking along the Cobequid Trail

After we watched the tidal bore come in on Wednesday, we decided to try a bike path - Cobequid Trail - that was nearby -- the weather forecast indicated that we might get wet, but... we pressed on!

We started at the Old Barns Trailhead

A rail-to-trail route

I thought this was interesting -- I recently "read" (listened to the audiobooks) a series of books ("Song of Acadia" by Janette Oke) that included the portion of history of the Deportation of the Acadians. The books are fiction, but it gave me information about a period of history of which I was previously unaware.

My seat wasn't at the right height, so I stopped to adjust it.

The trail was nice crushed gravel.

There were warnings at a few places about Cow Parsnip growing alongside the trail.

We rode about 6 miles to Truro Trailhead:

... where we turned around and headed back toward the Jeep.

Even though it wasn't a brilliant clear day, the clouds were really magnificent!

You can see that the trail took us along different views.

We saw some agricultural land -- evidently the Acadians started agriculture in this area by building dikes to protect the fields from incursion of sea water.

The cows are accustomed to folks passing by!

At the end of the ride, a selfie with Carl's new selfie-stick that can also be used as a tripod!

We were glad to have the opportunity to get our bikes out again (we had not ridden since the short trip to Western Brook Pond way back in our first few days on Newfoundland!) and to get our legs stretched out after so many days of rain!
