On Wednesday...
We saw a sign... expressing the views of "campers". We, you may know, aren't "campers" because we like to have WiFi! |
How else would we access YouTube videos to figure out how to fix stuff around the rig?!?!?
Carl tried to get our Oasis (hydronic heater) electric elements to reset -- in the past, he has found that he needed to remove all the power from the coach (including disconnecting the batteries) -- and that has caused the elements to reset. Unfortunately, that didn't work this time. So... for now, we can power the Oasis with the diesel burner, as it seems that both electric elements (or some components on the way to the electric elements) have stopped working. We had one element stop working while we were in the Maritimes last year, and got it resolved when we went to Nappannee last year -- that was loose wires that had arced and caused corrosion.
When we got to this campground, our power cord would not deliver power to the coach. Whenever this kind of thing happens, our first thought (especially at Thousand Trails) is that something is wrong at the power pedestal, but it checked out okay. Our cord had worked fine at the previous campground. We have a separate power outlet that we can use (bypassing the cord reel), and that worked, so we were able to plug in. This might imply that there is a problem with the cord reel. Carl was testing to see if there was something wrong with the cord reel... he pulled the cord all the way out, and found that it was an intermittent problem as he wiggled the cord. Ultimately, he found that the cord end was the culprit...
... and proceeded to open it up... |
It is probably impossible for you to see, but the white banded wire (neutral) had come loose from its connection. |
These wires are so stiff, but eventually he was able to get the other wires pulled further into the cord end, and then re-attach the white banded wire.
Completed |
This means that we can use the cord on the cord reel again.
It is such a struggle to deal with things that work one day and seem to randomly stop working the next. Carl says he doesn't even get his tools put away from one fix before two more things break!
