Celebrity Solstice - day 11 - Pago Pago, American Samoa - part 2

We headed into Pago Pago to visit. We again met our "forward scout" friends who were returning to the port at about the time we were leaving -- they let us know that very little was open in town (as it was again Good Friday, on the other side of the International Date Line). We headed in to town, Fagatogo...

We saw this building under construction -- I don't know if you can see it or not, but it has "gutter chains" or "rain chain" where the roof water would come down the chain rather than down a pipe. (https://myroofersauckland.co.nz/why-use-a-rain-chain-instead-of-a-gutter-downspout-why-rain-chains-are-gaining-popularity-in-auckland/) I know that we've seen these on homes in the US, but I don't recall seeing them on a public building.

Coming into town - a band shell, and a church a little ways up the hill

Across from the band shell, it appears that may be a market there on days that are not a holiday.

A view of the Celebrity Solstice

There were not many places open,

... but one place we found open was the hardware store... and their local mascot holding down the floor in the back corner!

We walked down a side street -- I thought I would be able to look up the names of these two churches from Google Maps, but they aren't named on the map. The church on the right was having a service, so we did not go in...

... inside the church on the left.

Another view of the inside of the church on the left from the picture above.

We continued walking, and turned up an alley, finding the "Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph the Worker" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-Cathedral_of_St._Joseph_the_Worker_(Fagatogo,_American_Samoa))

Inside of the Co-Cathedral

As we headed back toward the harbor, we saw the building where the legislature of American Samoa meets (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Samoa_Fono). I think that the round building with the rain chains in the first picture of this post may be part of the government building complex.

Back on the ship, I got a picture of one of the port officials as he was walking from the entry guard shack to another part of the port area -- in his official shirt and lavalava (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavalava).

We stopped at another couple of places in town including a "general store" with groceries, clothing, household items, etc -- essentially a Walmart in the footprint of a 7-11 with two floors -- but neglected to get any pictures there!
