Celebrity Solstice - day 13 - sea day - part 1

Sunday was Easter -- and would be the day that we crossed the equator.

There was a Catholic mass available on board, but we decided to participate in the Easter Service of our church in Texas via YouTube from our room.

This would also be the day that we would cross the equator...

We were just 3 degrees south of the equator.

We decided to go to the American Samoa lecture in the theater -- Carl took a picture in the restroom near the theater -- we find it interesting that the ship provides rolled up hand towels in the restrooms (on the shelves in the middle of this picture). The ship provides paper ones too, but we are encouraged to use the cloth ones -- I guess washing clothes is easier than disposing of paper waste.

In the lecture... "Hello" in Samoan

The Samoa Islands are known as the cultural heart of Polynesia.

Relationship of the two Samoas to each other geographically and the position of the International Date Line.

Note that Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) moved to the western side of the International Date line in 2011 -- more information here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-16351377 and https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/may/09/samoa-plans-to-move-clocks-24-hours

Navigation artwork -- this artwork would not be taken on the ship with the seafarers, but would provide an illustration of winds and ocean currents and island locations that the sailors would memorize information from the illustration and use during their navigation of these immense seas.
