Celebrity Solstice - day 13 - sea day - part 2

The ship had arranged a recognition of our crossing of the equator...

From the app on our phones

A view of our location on Google maps -- note that the equator is just north of the dot representing my location, and the picture of Carl representing his location. You may also note the dotted line around our location -- this is the route of the International Date Line in this area, so the islands of Kiribati would all be on the same date. (more information on Kiribati here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_Kiribati)

Zooming in on Google Maps -- you can see some of the islands of Kiribati that we were near.

We went up to the pool area and joined hundreds of our fellow cruisers ...

... to observe the coming of King Neptune and his court.

King Neptune and his court were represented by a number of the production cast on board.

Guests who wished, could "kiss the fish" and be inducted as "shell backs" who have crossed the equator by ship (as opposed to "pollywogs" who have not yet crossed the equator by ship).

We went to the buffet for lunch -- many options, including a huge shrimp cocktail display.

Later in the afternoon, we attended a display of hula dancing in the Sky Observation Lounge from the Hawaiian ambassadors on the cruise.

We watched the sun set into the Pacific...

There it goes!

It was about 6pm, and we were getting closer to the equator...

... just about 44 minutes south of the equator... we would be crossing sometime in the evening!

The evening entertainment was Wendy Law playing the Cello

While we were out, we crossed the equator (we didn't even feel a bump!)...

By the time we got back to our room (a little after 11pm), we were 41 minutes north of the equator.

 A busy day!
