Doing some shopping

I had gotten my eyes examined when I was in the DFW area in October, and Carl had wanted to get his examined a few weeks after his cataract surgery (which was done in September - https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/09/carls-cataract-surgery-is-completed.html), so, we decided to check on getting glasses this week. We did some research, and, since Carl would be using a discount through AARP for his exam and glasses, we decided to go to LensCrafters.

We went on Thursday afternoon. I looked around at frames while Carl was having his eye exam completed. I have had Titanium frames for a few years and really like them - they are very lightweight and yet don't get banged up much (I have accidentally slept on top of them and they got really bent up, but I could straighten them out and they were good as new). Carl is notoriously hard on glasses, and this will be the first set that he plans to wear all the time (previously he has just used readers and sunglasses). The fellow at LensCrafters directed me to the Titanium frames and specifically suggested one frame that he felt was very durable. I collected a few options and waited for Carl to come back out to the shop.

When Carl came out, he liked the frames I had selected, and the salesperson started working with us on what we wanted to order. He had just gotten started, though, when the lights in the store, and the mall, went out! The folks in the store found some flashlights and we tried working through some decisions on our lenses, but, they didn't have the ability to tell us prices of options, and would not be able to process the order without internet, and one of the salespeople had called "someone" who said that the lights might be out 15 minutes, or it may be 3 days! So we decided to leave and return when they had power again.

As we left the store, we saw that many (if not all) of the stores in the mall were without their lights (other than emergency lighting). As we drove out of the mall, the signal lights were also out, and we saw some emergency vehicles near a transformer box that had pretty obviously been recently hit by a vehicle. We didn't see the vehicle that hit the transformer, but there was a fender next to it... uh oh!

Friday morning, we decided to visit the Mesa Market, a large flea market located near here.

The Mesa Market was pretty deserted when we got there...

A view of some of the shops

While we were there, I got a call from a fellow at LensCrafters that they now had power and we could come in to complete our order. So, after walking through all of the market and purchasing a few things, we headed back to the mall and LensCrafters.

Carl tried another pair of glasses while we waited for a salesperson to be available to help us.

He isn't very picky!

This was the measuring device that they use to determine where your pupil is located within the lens to correctly position the progressive lenses.

Another shot of the measuring device.

We got all the measurements completed and two pairs of glasses (one for each of us) ordered. The lady who helped us was so nice and informative - we really appreciated all of her assistance!

Our glasses should be completed in a week or two - they will let us know -- and then we'll both be sporting new specs!
