On Monday, we moved to Ashland, Wisconsin. I had mentioned a few days ago that we were contemplating other alternatives in case the campground in Ashland was full... one of the things we considered was for me to drive the Jeep over while Carl waited in Herbster -- to be sure that there was a site available in Ashland that we could fit into before bringing Gracie over. Ultimately, though, we decided we'd be better traveling together...
When we got to the park, the information board indicated "No Holding Sites! RVs must be onsite." |
Good thing that I didn't drive over in the Jeep with the plan to call back to Carl to come!
When we got into the park, we saw a couple of folks out chatting and one had the wiring cord for hooking up his tow vehicle (we thought he might be preparing to leave, but we found out he had just arrived). I realized that one of the folks was the camp host, so I got out to ask if she knew if there were any sites available. She said that her husband would know for sure and he was walking up behind us... he said that there should be a site just up a little ways and he would walk up there and check. We followed in Gracie, and saw a car parked in a site -- Carl had seen the car whip around the campground road (going against the "Wrong Way" sign on the road) and get into the site just a moment before. We had definitely entered the park before the car. The camp host talked with the lady in the car, asked her where her RV was. She said that it was in town - he pointed out that there was no holding of sites, especially when an RV was right here ready to take the site, and she left. So, we got here at just the right time and were able to secure the last site that had become available!

We plan to stay here a week, enjoying the area and town of Ashland.
