Berry picking on Saturday

One of the things that Carl particularly remembered enjoying in this area of Wisconsin when he and Sue visited in the past was the fresh berries and berry picking. Again, we had planned to go earlier in the week, but it was chilly and/or rainy, so we ended up going on Saturday.

Enroute to Bayfield (where the berry farms were), we passed these three "Lost Creeks"...

We've passed along this road before on our way to Cornucopia...

Wouldn't you think they would be more careful not to lose another one once they had lost creeks 1 and 2?

We had mapped out where we wanted to go (we used https://bayfield.org/what-to-do/orchards-berry-farms/orchard-reports/ to get a feel for which farms had what produce) -- our first stop was at North Wind Organic Farm -- we had read that they had black raspberries, raspberries, and sweet cherries.

They also had a momma dog and cute puppy!

We got a small pint of already picked sweet cherries and raspberries. We had heard that some of the berries are in short supply because of weather issues -- and the man at North Wind confirmed that they had had a frost in May and then very little rain, so the fruit was not as plentiful.

We stopped at Apple Hill Orchard and got some more cherries. We stopped at Erickson Orchard (hoping for sweet cherries and maybe raspberries and strawberries) and Bayfield Apple Company (hoping for strawberries) -- but they did not have items available (Erickson had wonderful pastries that, only with great difficulty, we were able to resist!).

Our final stop was at Rocky Acres Berry Farm -- the online information indicated that they had raspberries that were already picked and pick-your-own...

Beautiful orchid on the porch -- at first we thought it was artificial, but we looked at it pretty closely and think it was real...

It turned out that Rocky Acres had pick-your-own strawberries and raspberries -- so we decided to do some picking!

We found nice (though mostly small) strawberries!

Carl diligently picking...

We got two pounds (the two quarts together weighed two pounds).

Then we headed over to the raspberries....

We brought two quart containers, but ended up picking a quart of raspberries.

This was a map that they had displayed in the town of Bayfield showing the fruit farms...

We had made our own map with the places we planned to go! (Link to Google Maps)

All our purchases lined up on our tray when we got home! Aren't they beautiful?!?!? And they are delicious too!
