Enjoying Ashland

When we got up on Saturday morning, we could see that there was some sort of race/walk going on on the bike/walking path that goes by the campground... Carl heard from one of the other folks in the campground that today was Ashland Bay Days Celebration (https://www.visitashland.com/events/bay-days-festival/).

We had already planned to visit the Farmers Market, and to try to see the murals in town, so, it made sense to take in Bay Days too!

We didn't realize it until later, but this particular mural had just been unveiled on Saturday morning and there was an interview with the artist going on (she has a floppy straw hat on in front of the guy who is right in the middle of the picture). From the website: "Dedication of the newest mural:  Cabbie’s and Stagecoach Mural, 315 East Main Street, 10am   This mural tells the history of Cabbie’s bar from when it was an 18 year old beer bar in the 60’s up to it becoming Stagecoach Bar & Grill."

Ore Dock Mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-4/) near courthouse. They were preparing to play 3-on-3 basketball games in the street next to it.

Lumberjack mural - left side...

... and Lumberjack mural, right side. (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-b8/)

It was hard to get a full picture of some of them - they are quite large and sometimes we were limited in how far away we could get. It was interesting in reading the information on the website (link under the picture) that the people in each of the murals are created from pictures of actual residents that the artists used as they were painting the murals.

1950's Snapshot mural (https://www.visitashland.com/mural-12/)

Lighthouse mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-13test/)

Bayfront mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-11/)

We got to the Farmers Market and got some veggies (zucchini, kale, and salad mix).

On our way back through the Bay Days area of town, I took some pictures of signs with information about some of the events coming up...

Another mural along the way... Veterans mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-vv9/)

Another upcoming event for Bay Days!

Storefront mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-7/). Can you see Carl posing in this one?

.... The arrow may help, but... the picture is probably too dark/too small for you to see him anyway...

At the end of the street where we had arrived at the Bay Days celebration, there was a car show...

We were shocked to see a AMC Pacer...

... we didn't know that any had survived rusting out... this one is a '75, and it only has 85K miles, so maybe it has been kept inside most of its life...

As we were biking back toward the campground, some more murals... Waitress mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-3/)

Historical Ellis Avenue mural (https://www.visitashland.com/murals/mural-2/)

We stopped at the RadioShack -- no, really, there is still a RadioShack here -- with 5(!!!) rooms of merchandise!!! Carl went in to browse while I stayed outside and watched the festivities at the Cabbies mural (the one which was unveiled today) which were just finishing up.

DePadua mural (https://www.visitashland.com/mural-20-depadua-mural/)

We realized that when we visited the Ashland Oredock a few days ago and shared pictures (https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2021/07/around-ashland.html), we didn't take a picture of its full length -- it is hard to get a picture that really shows it, but... we took this picture Saturday morning when we got back from Bay Days.

  1. Hi Patti,
FYI: The Pacer was made by "AMC" (American Motors) not GMC.

I bent the ram on our front leveling jack when the 6x6 I was using twisted at a 45 degree angle on very soft ground - our site must have been regraded just before we arrived. Good idea putting something below your pads to help stabilize the 6x6 blocks. I made ours out of cedar making them much lighter than they would be if made out of 2x lumber.

Bette & I really enjoy following your adventures.
    Thanks for sharing,
