Faithful readers may remember that we enjoy making a full turkey dinner because we like to have leftovers. We had seen frozen turkeys in the store when we were shopping last week on Thursday, but we figured it was too early to get the bird as we didn't want to cook it until December 23, Saturday. We went out after going to Organ Stop Pizza on Sunday and at the two places we stopped, one didn't have *any* whole turkeys (only frozen turkey breasts), and the other had a very limited selection. We were hoping to get a "Butterball" -- we've had most success with those in the past -- and there were no Butterballs to be found.
So, on Monday, we went out to try to "bag a turkey"!
The first store we went to had some turkeys, but no Butterballs.
The second store had some Butterballs, but they were fresh, and pricey:
Not sure if you can see that it is $60 for about a 20 pound turkey - $3/pound - ouch! |
Besides which, we probably would have needed to cook it sooner than Saturday.
We went to another store near our resort, and they did have Butterballs, but they were "cook from frozen". They were also more expensive, and we'd need to have freezer space for storing until we would cook on Saturday - we had made room in the refrigerator, but not the freezer. We decided to get another brand and try that. The largest we could find was about 16 pounds, so we "bagged" it and it is now defrosting in the refrigerator in preparation for cooking on Saturday!
