Some lot maintenance

As I mentioned earlier, being back at our lot means that we have maintenance activities that we want to do on the lot. One of the things we noticed (we had been told by a neighbor) was that our sign had been knocked over (probably driven over) by one of the tenants that the rental office put on the lot during the two seasons we were gone. It had been put back in place, but it was not firmly in place, so we decided to try to dig out the spot and put it back more securely.

Carl started digging with a spade, but quickly realized that this soil was not really dig-able -- so he fashioned an auger for his drill (our actual auger bit is in the container in Virginia).

The sign post is about a 2"x2" square, so we only needed the hole to be that large.

The auger loosened the dirt...

... then I used a spoon to scoop the dirt out.

We eventually got it deep enough, and then packed the dirt and wet it to try to make a solid support for the sign post in the ground.

We'll hope it holds!
