Sunday drives

We did a bit of driving on Sunday -- going to church at Riverside Community Church and later in the day driving to the home of some friends.

Pictures of Gracie at Big Rock Campground:

The sites are large -- all are in full sun. The pullthru sites are particularly long -- plenty long for Gracie and the Jeerage -- and even another RV if we had one to park here!

By Sunday afternoon, the pullthru sites were still nearly all occupied -- but only a few of the campsites in the rest of the campground were in use. If you are a detailed observer, you may see that the rig to the right of Gracie and the Jeerage is a Safari Trek -- the type of rig that Dwayne and I first had. We don't see many of them, but it is always nice when we do! We did not have the opportunity to chat with the owners of this rig (they came in on Sunday afternoon, left in their toad and returned late, and then pulled out early on Monday), but we think we've talked with them previously.

Since Kane County Forest Preserve has two campgrounds, Big Rock and Paul Wolff, and since each has a 2 week stay limit, there are a number of folks who migrate between the two during the summer months. Both are first come, first served campgrounds. You can stay a maximum of 14 days before needing to be out of the campground for at least 7 days. Big Rock is less fully occupied (it may fill on holiday weekends), and since we were returning to the Chicagoland area on a Friday, we weren't certain that we would find a site at Paul Wolff -- which is closer to Carl's son's home -- so we decided to stay at Big Rock for a few days, and move to Paul Wolff at mid-week (Tuesday). That will give us the ability to stay at Paul Wolff for up to 14 days, return to Big Rock for a week, and then complete our stay in the area (over the Labor Day weekend) at Paul Wolff -- or that's the plan!

We may see the Safari Trek again at Paul Wolff -- I know we've seen a Trek there in the past, but I cannot remember for sure that it was the one that was next to us here at Big Rock.

It is interesting to see the same folks at Big Rock and Paul Wolff -- it is kind of like living in a neighborhood where you know a little about several of your neighbors -- recognizing their "houses" as much as knowing the people -- but... the houses change location within the neighborhood. One week, this particular couple may be right across the street from you, and the next week, they are around the corner and a different family has moved their house in across the street!
