On Monday, we'll be hosting the annual Williams Family Labor Day Breakfast at our campsite at Paul Wolff Campground in Elgin, Illinois. Last year, we were at Big Rock Campground near Sugar Grove, Illinois, and we had the breakfast at the pavilion at that campground. The pavilion was nice because it was covered (shady) with plenty of tables, but a little inconvenient as we had to carry stuff over there.
We checked on using a pavilion here at Paul Wolff and got mixed messages about whether we'd be allowed to use the pavilion. It would be easier to host at our site, so that's our plan. Since we've been away each day for doctor visits, we have not been outside at our site in the morning. We went out on Saturday morning to see how much shade our site would have at 9am, and... it wasn't much. Our campsite would be in full sun, and Monday is predicted to be a pretty hot day.
We decided to see if the awning helped much...
We keep the awning strapped closed with velcro straps to ensure it does not accidentally deploy when we're traveling... |
... so I went up on the roof to take the straps off. |
We deployed the awning, and it provided a small amount of shade at 9am... but we noticed that the site next to us had a lot more shade from nearby trees, and it was unoccupied... so we decided to move on Saturday morning! Just 15 minutes and we'd be done, we thought...
... well, almost an hour later, we had everything set up in the neighboring site -- and had dumped our holding tanks too! |
Gracie in the new site. |
It may be comfortable enough on Monday morning to not need the shade, but we figure we're better off having the option of either using the shade or enjoying the sun -- whichever is best on the day!
