A new year brings an end...

The family gathering ended on New Years Day. Some folks had very early morning flights from Phoenix to Chicago (5:30am, necessitating leaving the house in the middle of the night!)... so we bid those folks "good-bye" and "see you in a few months" (for Steve and Shay's wedding in September) on Friday evening.

We went to the house on New Years morning to see the others off... we had thought that Pamela and Dylan were flying later on Saturday, but their original flight was cancelled and they got rebooked on that same early morning one, so everyone going to Chicago had already left. It was probably a good thing as snow was predicted for Chicago (I think it was the first snowfall for this winter season which is later than usual).

Joan and family were packed and ready to go, so they finished loading up soon after we arrived...

... and headed out for their drive back to California.

Kim and the girls were to stay a few additional days; they planned to move to a hotel on New Years day. The check in time was not until afternoon, and the AirBnB required everyone to exit by 11am, so we had some time to spend...

We took them to the Paint-O-Rama horse show and watched a few classes of Western Pleasure. We each picked which horse we thought was "prettiest" (not judging based on what the official judging criteria was, I'm sure!) and then enjoyed seeing how we did compared to what the judges picked. We got to see two walk-trot classes, one of 5-10 year olds, and one of 11-18 year olds -- kids of the age of each of the granddaughters -- so it was interesting to see children of their own ages competing.

Then we headed to Organ Stop Pizza for late lunch and entertainment...

... we had gotten pretty hungry by the time Organ Stop opened at 3pm!

We enjoyed the organ recital and all the things to see as the organ was playing.

We've posted about Organ Stop Pizza from our visits last winter (https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/12/hamfest-and-organ-stop-pizza.html, https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2020/12/another-trip-to-organ-stop-pizza.html, https://journeyinamazinggrace.blogspot.com/2021/03/another-visit-to-organ-stop-pizza.html).

Here's some history if you want to read up on it: https://organstoppizza.com/the-pipe-organ/history/
