Friday at LPC3 and Bike helmets

Since we were "off work" on Friday, we decided to take a bike ride around the campus. We've walked around the campus a few times, but knew that there were areas we had not yet explored.

A view of the beach at the edge of the lake. Carl mentioned that he wonders how they ensure that there are no alligators when people are swimming in the water. It is too cool for swimming right now, so we're not concerned for ourselves, but wonder what they do for summer campers.

Before retirement, Carl had a small countdown clock on his computer that had a picture of a guy in a hammock between two palm trees along with the clock counting down to his retirement. Carl had imagined that living in an RV full time meant that he'd have time to sling a hammock between two palm trees and relax... but that hasn't happened yet! We had planned to bring the hammock that we have with us from the container in Virginia (surely we'd find two likely palm trees!) but it turns out we left the hammock in the shed in Mesa! Whoops! This camp has some hammocks under a cover down at the beach, and there are palm trees right behind, so we figured this was as close as we were going to get to get a picture of Carl in a hammock between two palm trees!

The camp also has a couple of very large Adirondack chairs... Carl looks like a toddler!

Both of us in the Adirondack chair.

Note that we have bike helmets on - we had ridden our bikes down to the beach area. These are new Sena helmets for us - they provide us with the ability to talk to each other via a mesh network. We really like being able to easily converse while we're riding.

We've also used them when we want to be able to communicate with each other hands-free -- like when parking Gracie. We could use our phones, but sometimes holding the phone and motioning or driving is more difficult than just talking and having the communication go across via the helmet. Since Carl is usually driving when we're parking the rig (and I'm directing), I look a little strange standing outside with a bike helmet on... but... well, it works!

We've also found them useful when working under the slides or putting things into the Jeep -- not for the communication ability, but to protect our heads!
