LPC3 Sowers Day 4

Thursday was our last workday for the first week of our Sower project at Lake Placid Camp and Conference Center.

After devotions...

... Becky and I continued on the "Crazy Quilt Tiling Project" with cleaning the grout between the tiles and the concrete on the sides. We started with wire brushes on the grout and sides...

... then we used air to blow the dirt out between the tiles.

A before picture on the side of the table top...

... after picture of the same area. It has cleaned up nicely.

When we went up to the dining room for break, I stopped to take a picture of the green paint that Gwen and Carolyn had applied on the shuffleboard courts.

After break, we got some cleaning supplies from Gracie and did some additional cleaning of the tiles...

Spray bleach cleaner really did a good job!

We think that the bench and table tops are ready for grouting on Monday.

We *think* that the plan is to grout and then seal the tops, and then paint the sides and stands with black paint or stain... We still need to clean the stands (legs) for the table and the benches.

We finished up a little early and put all our equipment away. Six groups from churches or colleges will be coming in to the center for retreats or meetings on the weekend, so we needed to be sure to have everything put away. We have been putting everything away each day, but we were careful to ensure that nothing was left out when we finished on Thursday.

We stopped up at the shuffleboard courts to see if Gwen and Carolyn needed any help putting things away. We helped getting things loaded onto Barb's cart for return to the maintenance area. And yes, they are now painting the courts white -- it is a base/primer coat. The green was not sticking well.

The women work 3 hours (8-10am, 10:30-11:30am); the men work 6 hours (8-10am, 10:30am-12:30pm, 1:30-3:30pm) - so they still had three hours to go.

The team that Carl is on is working on a project right in front of where Gracie is parked. He was digging a trench for the water to be delivered to the "WaterMonster".

Group leader Bill was on the ground again working on the drain for the WaterMonster.

There are a number of WaterMonsters around the campus - several spigots on each allowing campers to refill their water bottles or cups with water.

It has been a warm sunny week. I am glad that the ladies get off work at 11:30am - it gets pretty warm in the afternoon, and, at least where Carl is working, there's not any shade. We are thankful that it has not been overly humid. And we are thankful that one week of our project is completed!
