Monday - a busy day

Monday was a pretty day - chilly (highs in 50s, maybe up to 60F), but some sun.

A day or so ago, Carl had commented that we had not seen anyone tending the lobster traps that we thought were in front of where we are parked. We can see the floats, and thought that there were traps underneath. On Monday morning, a boat was out there inspecting the traps...

You can see that there were some raindrops on our front window...

I made a video with some additional still pictures and a short video of the folks working with the lobster traps; it also includes some pictures and two videos from later in the day: https://youtu.be/V4uRbf4CzDY

We drove into Woody Point (the next town west of us) for lunch -- the restaurant was attached to a craft shop -- upstairs, lots of quilts...

Downstairs, all sorts of crafts!

We went to lunch with our campground neighbors, Dave and Joyce, from Alberta. We have so enjoyed spending time with them while staying here near Gros Morne National Park.

Some pictures outside the restaurant...

Looking west out toward Bonne Bay -- Gros Morne across the bay, a couple of commercial fishing boats at the loading dock for transfer to trucks.

Looking east back toward Tablelands

There were a couple of items that we could use from the grocery store so we stopped at the "supermarket"- about the size of a 7-11...

Frozen food department...

Each freezer had a sign on the wall with information about what it contained.

Pork shoulder roast are on a good sale! (Remember that we get about 25% off  due to the exchange rate as the US dollar is strong compared to the Canadian dollar right now.)

Walk in beer cooler

We didn't find the items that we were wanting at the supermarket, but we have alternatives on board the rig so we're okay!

Truck at the loading dock off the commercial fishing boats.

The loading dock is right at the water and the boats are tied up just on the other side.

Neat looking house with widow's walk on top in Woody Point.

We had been hoping for a relatively nice day for Carl to do some repairs on the Jeep -- when the tire shredded about 4 weeks ago, it did some damage in the wheelwell of the Jeep, and Carl wanted to take a better look at it and try making a few repairs.

Jacking the Jeep up in preparation of taking the wheel off.

Looking at the wires that got damaged.

The wire loom around these wires was damaged and one of the wires was too -- but we don't honestly know whether that can be laid to the tire shredding -- these are wires that some previous owner put in to wire up the Jeep's lights to work when it is plugged in to Gracie... and they did a pretty poor job of it. They had not put any loom on it -- Carl added the loom back in the summer of 2021 which corrected some of the issues we were having with the Jeep's lights, but he didn't dig into the system all the way from the back to the front.

With the wheel off, he could better see the condition of the wires in this area -- they are not routed in a very good way, but it was too much to make major changes right now. He was able to put the loom on more securely ...

... and secure them so hopefully they will be out of the way of moving parts that would further rub the wires.

Later in the afternoon, we were sitting out in front of the RVs enjoying the relatively warm evening when a whale surfaced just in front of us --

This picture shows the whale's back, but if you watch the video included above (https://youtu.be/V4uRbf4CzDY) at the end you'll see a video of the whale as well as one of what we think is a harbour seal.

Our plan was to leave this area and start heading north toward St Anthony on Tuesday, but... we woke up to a very windy day on Tuesday (winds at 12MPH and gusts up to 40MPH), so we decided to stay put for another day. We're hoping for a less windy day on Wednesday.
