Wednesday - moving north

We planned to leave the Gros Morne area on Tuesday and drive about half way toward our campground near St Anthony... but when we woke on Tuesday, Gracie was rockin' and rollin' and we hadn't started driving yet! The wind was blowing at 15-20MPH with up to 40MPH gusts... not a good day for driving! So, we checked and extended our stay at Water's Edge once again!

That meant that we would have a longer drive on Wednesday if we were going to make our campground for Wednesday night -- we could have delayed our arrival by a day, but we figured if we could make it, we would. It would be about 265 miles, not our longest drive, but on roads that were not always in the best shape and through lots of small towns with slower speed limits.

As we continued north through Gros Morne National Park, we enjoyed the views of the water...

We were traveling along the Gulf of St Lawrence for much of the day.

It was a cloudy day, but the winds were nowhere near as strong as on Tuesday.

We were checking Day's End Directory listing locations as we drove, and that brought us to The Arches Provincial Park along the east side of Newfoundland.

This is a view from the parking lot.

I put an arrow on the picture so you can locate where this is on the island of Newfoundland. Note: This map is showing the provincial parks for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, so it shows a portion of Labrador in the upper left... but that part is actually all north of the northernmost part of Newfoundland.

Obligatory selfie

Carl wanted me to get into the picture to provide perspective -- I should worn brighter colors so you could distinguish me from the rocks! I was trying to make sure that big rock stayed up there... it did fine as long as I was there!

Some more views of the arches...

... some of our fellow travelers also enjoying the Arches.

Carl took some videos that I compiled into a movie -- you can find it here: https://youtu.be/Lp0oL75yyVY

As we headed back to the parking area, we saw this bunny grabbing a snack...

He did not seem to be concerned about us at all, seemingly posing for his picture!

Continuing north...

... still with the Gulf of St Lawrence alongside!

Whoops, they are stopped not quite off the road...

Someone was doing some work under the trailer... guess they were broken down. BIG rocks on the trailer!

We stopped for fuel for Gracie, the Jee-rage, and ourselves (finished our pea soup) at the Irving Oil in Plum Point, NL.

We continued driving up along the north coast of Newfoundland...

... and we saw our first icebergs! They weren't huge, and it was rainy and foggy - but we saw some icebergs!

Some "bergy bits" along the shore.

We're hoping to see a lot more icebergs -- after all, it is the Iceberg Festival here in the areas around St Anthony this week!
