On Thursday, we had a free day (nothing scheduled by Fantasy) -- we looked forward to getting some things done that we'd been putting off!
We headed out to do some shopping.
We had been seeing these long gravel hauling trucks...
Our bus driving in Fairbanks told us that they are the trucks hauling dirt containing gold ore and carrying to a place where the gold can be processed.
You can see that there are some axles with smaller wheels -- those are not always in use...
We thought that the larger wheels were duals, but at least some of them are singles, maybe super singles.
A truck coming from the opposite direction with the smaller wheels lifted -- so it must not be loaded.
We got to Costco and did some shopping...
... then to Walmart for some more shopping.
We also wanted to get some post card stamps at the post office -- we looked up one on the Garmin and it ended up being on the Fort Wainwright Army base -- I explained to the guy at the gate that we were lost and looking for a post office... he was not amused, but got us turned around and we found another post office!
We also did some cooking -- spaghetti with meat sauce, sausage gravy and biscuits -- with leftovers so we'd have meals for upcoming days.
