Fantasy Caravan Day 38, part 1 -- Seward to Kenai

On Monday, we had a relatively short drive from Seward west to Kenai.

Before leaving the campground, Carl got a shot of the eagle's nest in the campground. You may be able to see the head of one eaglet poking up. We were grateful *not* to be parked underneath the tree -- one of our fellow travelers had a side full of eagle poop on their rig.

We retraced part of our route to Seward and were stopped behind this pickup, waiting for a pilot car to guide us through a construction area. We had noticed that the bag over his tailgate made it appear that he was driving a Taco (Tacoma); we then noticed that the license plate is "AKTACO".

We're grateful that we don't need to worry about avalanches during this time of year!

The construction was a few miles long and the roadway was gravel and pretty rough, but we got through it OK.

We turned onto the Sterling Highway to head a bit further south and west.

Along the way, we passed through the area of the 2019 Swan Lake Fire...

... it burned 167,164 acres in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Chugach National Forest.

We arrived at our campground for one night, Diamond M Ranch Resort, got settled in and then headed out for a tour of the "ranch" (details in another post).
