Last week, there was a Ham Radio Snow Bird Field Day for the clubs in which Carl participates.
It is common for the national group for Ham Radio operators, ARRL (American Radio Relay League) to have a field day in June (http://www.arrl.org/field-day). Some clubs also have a winter gathering, and February 28 was the day chosen for the Sunlife and Venture Out Clubs to have their field day.

Set up and making contacts |
The lady on the right (Pat) had made her first high frequency (HF) contact during the field day. |
Chuck and Sue making contacts |
Judy had brought her drone and was demonstrating its capabilities too. |
Lots of people making contacts... |
... under each pavilion. |
Antennas set up at various places... |
... all around the area. This one is a special type of mount that one of the club members, Tony, makes - with a collapsible mount that expands out to a wide backplane. |

The field day ended with a delicious bar-be-que pot luck with the club providing the meat and everyone contributing sides. |
It is always interesting to be out with the ham radio folks!
